Knitting in 2007

December 31, 2007 · 5 Comments

Well, another year is drawing to a close.  It was a VERY busy year for me.  I was very busy at work, then left my job.  I took a 4000+ mile road trip.  I experienced the joys of home ownership.  I started law school.  I did do some knitting though.  Here is a run-down of my projects, in order of when I worked on them.  Some of the design stuff you didn’t find out about until later, but now you know when I actually made them.  I’m beginning to understand why knitbloggers peter out once they really get into designing.  Two of my favorite projects of 2007 I can’t show you yet!  Oh well.  Here it is, the knitting of 2007:

My uncle got married yesterday (Congrats to Rob and Holly!)  Earlier this week it occured to me that I might be a bit chilly in the dress I had planned to wear, so I whipped this up in 3.5 days. It looks a little bit rumpled in the photos because they were taken after the wedding. There was no time before the wedding, I was weaving in the ends in the car on the way over.

This was a fast fun project. The lace pattern is very very easy and goes quickly once you have it down. I didn’t do quite as much ribbing as called for (ran out of time, heh). I liked the gauge I was getting on #9s, so instead of going up a size as instructed I added stitches over one arm and took them out over the other arm. I made the largest size, and used just under two skeins of Cascade 220, but I might have wanted a third if I had done all the ribbing. I would definitely recommend this pattern.

Happy Birthday Caroline!

So my little sister is 21.  I can still make her an elephant toy for her birthday.  She’ll never be too old for elephants.

You may recognize the elephant as Ysolda’s Elijah. I made a couple of minor changes (bigger body, garter ears) but it was definitely mostly Ysolda’s pattern.

My sister has a thing for elephants, and I traditionally give her elephant-themed stuff for her birthday. As this is her 21st birthday, a pink elephant was especially appropriate.

I loved the pattern.  It was very cleverly constructed and had NO SEAMING which is a huge plus for me.  It was a bit difficult to pick up stitches from already-stuffed sections, but it wasn’t terribly difficult.  It only took me 4 days, and just over one skien of Filatura Di Crosa 501.  It was really nice to work on something quick, fun, and different.  Thanks Ysolda!

Knitting Weather

Today would be the perfect day to do nothing but sit and knit.  Sadly, I need to study for my three remaining finals.  We were supposed to have Criminal Law this afternoon but it was postponed to Saturday because of the weather.

I’m sorry that I’ve been neglecting you little blog.  I HAVE been knitting, but it’s all gifts and design ideas that I need to keep secret so I can submit them someday.  I’ve also had miserable start-itis lately.  Good think I’ll have a nice knitting-heavy break soon!
