Tempest Socks

Tempest 3

I’ve been involved in a torrid love affair with Cherry Tree Hill Supersock for several months. The Tropical Storm color way is my favorite, because it reminds me of a thunderstorm on a summer evening. These socks feature an easy, subtle zigzag pattern reminiscent of lightning bolts cutting across the indigo sky.

SIZE
To fit a foot 8-9 inches in circumference

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Foot circumference: 8 inches (unstretched)
Leg Length: 5.25 inches
Foot Length: To fit

MATERIALS
Cherry Tree Hill Supersock [100% superwash merino wool; 420yd per 4oz skein]; Color: Tropical Storm; 1 skein

Tapestry needle

GAUGE
36 sts/54 rows = 4″ in stockinette stitch, worked in the round.

PATTERN NOTES
This pattern is written for two circular needles. It can easily be adapted to a set of 5 DPNs, just divide the stitches evenly among 4 needles instead of 2.

Tempest Detail

Lightning Lace (multiple of 9 sts):
This lace pattern consists of only two pattern rows, each worked eight times. I have organized the chart in a zigzag fashion so the stitches are shown in the correct position relative to one another.

Switch to Needle 2, working the instep sts. Begin the Lightning Lace pattern again at round 1.

Switch back to Needle 1, and pick up and k one st in the gap between the instep and the heel flap, and 20 sts along edge of heel flap. You should have 62 sts on Needle 1 and 36 sts on Needle 2.

  3. Love these! I am printing out this pattern as I write and I am practically casting on. I have Dusk and Country Garden in the multi-c0loured, both of which are reminiscent of Tropical Storm…
